Mon Dieu

Here is a monoprint comic page I made. The image was hard to get into the computer, I had to do multiple scans. The story is supposed to take place in some post apocalyptic setting where our power towers are all that is left of our past civilization, sort of like stone henge. Now the power of the tower is rediscovered and worshiped once again!

Cats

Here is a silly comic I made during my "comic a day" phase. I think I will try doing that again sometime soon.

Humps

garbage

This is all the garbage a couple of us girls made to eat lunch. It was a reality check for me.

More New York

This is a drawing of a guy drawing the subway in a subway. New York subways are full of the most interesting subjects, can't blame him.

11/11/11

Today is 11/11/11!!! I will celebrate with another drawing from my trip to New York =) I kind of imagine that when I look at the clock and its 11:11, its a sign of good luck. Now my superstition has evolved to include anything with multiple ones. Even 1:11. So today is uber lucky!

10.11.11

Swallow Cafe in New york. I don't think its the best coffee in the world, but they have a nice ambiance and hip clientele. Perfect conditions for drawing.

New York

Here are some drawings from my New York trip. I have a lot more, I'll let them leak little by little. For now, there is a lot of homework to complete. NSCAD, my school, l is in a lot of trouble financially and the teachers and technicians are going on strike soon! I won't hang out around the school without them!! Today I wrote a letter to tell the gov't how much we need NSCAD, all students are encouraged to do the same =) I love NSCAD, I feel free and encouraged to make the kind of art that I think needs to be in the world =)

State change

This is a water coloured intaglio plate. Printmaking was going great, until today I realized my prints from my last assignment where gone!! Someone threw out 5-7 hours of my life while they were drying. You know, printmaking is a very "shared" art form, you share a press, inks, tips tricks, which is great! But its times like this where I just want to spend time alone on easy to do art. So I coloured in one of my older prints.

Working heat

everyone knows skeletons do good music
This is the house across my window where my desk is. They have lots of parties. But they put on good music, so its okay. The sound of my heating pipes keep me awake more than they do. I find that i have more mice, ants and fruit flies in Halifax than I ever had in Ontario. Maybe it has something to do with the old humid house I live in? Or because I don't clean my kitchen enough. I'd rather spend the extra time drawing about it than cleaning it =)

Laptop glow

This is a little somethin I made for class. Its of myself and Alex in a fort we built to watch a movie outside while mice take our popcorn.

This is yet another humane way to rid yourself of your own creation. Do your dishes.

Overwelcomed stay 1

Foster a cat

This is the poster I made with my cat print. I added words to some of them, I hope to be able to have time to finish them after my trip to New York and post them around the school. I wonder what the response will be like =) IF YOU WANT TO FOSTER A CAT, CLICK HERE http://ca-r-ma.org/halifax_chapter these cats need love =)

19.9.11

attention Halifax! Foster a cat. Have a temporary best buddy. Kitchen guard ( from mice ). Life drawing model. A cat is good for many things.

The sea is the waiting room of the insane asylum

Halifax is kitsch!! The only thing that makes this life great is cats and houses. And Alex with muffins. Look in the windows of the house, what do you see looking back at you? ,

Conversation with my inner child

These are abstractions that I drew over to bring out whatever I saw. Its a fun little project for printing class

These are an illustration I made for a contest with Jillian Tamaki. I did many versions of the colouring, until Alex saved me and coloured it for me (the one with green leggings) Ill post the different versions too later, its funny to see them all together.

Refract from Paloma Dawkins on Vimeo.

This is something new I am trying, video art. It was fun to make, lots of final cut animation going on. I also have a video of me putting the specks of dust on the lens and talking in a my outdoor voice to Alex about tomato sauce. That, I will turn into a video some other time.

Cats

New illustration inspired from these two old women I saw fighting in Chinese in Montreal last week. It was so funny. Also, Alex's kitty named Spike has made an enemy in the neighborhood and likes to make creepy angry cat noises whenever he see's him. So, this is my drawing.

Hey Joe

This is an experimental comic based from the song Hey Joe by Jimmy Hendrix. Listen to it while you read this... or if Jimmy Hendrix aint your thing, then listen to the version by Nick Cave
